This auction will feature more than 125 lots of outstanding pre-1900 material, ranging from classic cards to rare team cabinets to extraordinary display pieces. Among the highlights are two notable fresh-to-the-hobby collections of cards. The first comes to us via an estate sale in Kentucky, which yielded four extremely rare N175 Large Gypsy Queens, including Hall of Famers Ewing, Kelly, and Ward, as well as several small Gypsy Queens and a near-complete set of the colorful N321 S. F. Hess issue. The second is a wonderful assortment of N172 Old Judge cards that have been kept in the family of an old-time collector for decades. Submitted to PSA, many of the cards graded Excellent or better, including Hall of Famers O’Rourke and Hanlon.
Beyond these two collections, there is a wide variety of type cards from some of card collecting’s most popular and desirable issues. Also included are rarities such as Lone Jack, Kalamazoo Bats, Lorillards, Yum Yum, and G & B Chewing Gum. Several outstanding team cabinets chronicle some great teams, such as the Detroit Wolverines, or capture the early days of standout Hall of Famers, such as Candy Cummings, Jake Beckley, Joe McGinnity, and Willie Keeler. An incredible 1870 Warren Studios Harry Wright CDV is also up for consideration as are superb imperial cabinets and displays, including the iconic New York Fashions lithograph.
