1933 R319 Goudey #53 Babe Ruth PSA NM-MT 8
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Exceptional high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards, #53 with yellow background from the 1933 Goudey series. This is one of just fifteen examples graded by PSA at this extraordinary level, with only one graded higher, out of 841 examples graded by PSA to date. The "yellow background" pose of Babe Ruth is, without a doubt, his most difficult to obtain and sought-after card in the 1933 Goudey set. For some reason, this card is also a condition rarity compared with other Ruth cards in the set. We suspect that this is because 1) it is from an early and relatively scarce series, and 2) it is the lowest number among the four Ruths in the 1933 Goudey set. Kids who collected this series and were lucky enough to get a #53 Ruth had plenty of time to enjoy the card as the baseball season wore on, and as the balance of the 1933 Goudey set was issued in the months ahead. The offered card is a beautiful high-grade example. Perfect registration, flawless colors, four sharp corners, and centered slightly to the left. Extremely clean reverse with bold green print throughout. This is an extraordinary world-class example of one of Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards.
1933 R319 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth PSA NM-MT 8
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Extremely high-grade example of the ideal classic Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the Babe in his follow-through batting pose. Only five examples are graded higher out of 1,181 examples graded to date by PSA. This is an extraordinary card with only the slightest traces of wear on the corners, near-flawless registration, and centered just a hint toward the bottom. The reverse is perfectly clean with bold green print. This is one of the most popular and recognizable baseball cards from any era. Considered by many to represent the best value in high grade among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set, the #144 Ruth card is always greatly sought after, on any short list of the hobby's most classic cards, and, of course, extremely rare to find in such high grade. One of the highest PSA-graded examples in the world of one Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards.
1933 R319 Goudey #149 Babe Ruth PSA NM-MT 8
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Beautiful and stunning ultra-high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards, #149 Ruth with red background from the 1933 Goudey series. Only two copies are graded higher (both NM-MT+ 8.5) out of 866 examples graded to date by PSA. This is an exceptional high-grade NM-MT example. Perfect registration. Flawless colors. Sharp corners. Perfectly bright and clean, both front and back, and centered very slightly to the left. Small red print spots are visible in the top border, an occurrence that is almost universal to the #149 Ruth card and mentioned only for the sake of accuracy. The green text on the reverse is boldly printed. This is an outstanding world-class example of one Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards.
1933 R319 Goudey #181 Babe Ruth PSA NM-MT 8
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Of the 975 examples graded to date by PSA, only seven examples have ever been graded higher! Beautiful and absolutely stunning ultra-high-grade example of one of Babe Ruth’s most classic cards: #181 with green background from the 1933 Goudey series. Bright and clean, both front and back, with perfect registration, flawless colors, and four strong corners. The centering is superb for this card, measuring approximately 50/50 left to right and 65/35 top to bottom. Bold green print on the flawless off-white reverse. Goudey cards featuring Babe Ruth are among the most recognizable of all vintage cards in the hobby, and they are on almost every list compiling the greatest cards ever issued, including PSA's Top 250 Sportscards in the Hobby set, based on the book Collecting Sports Legends: The Ultimate Hobby Guide, by Joe Orlando, which selects the most significant cards from all the different sports. Collectors are beginning to appreciate how scarce superb high-grade examples really are, with cards in the extreme high grades, such as this, realizing exceptionally strong prices recently. There is good reason for it: Goudey Babe Ruth cards are never going out of style with collectors, and they are among the safest stores of value and most recognizable cards available to new collectors. This is a world-class example of one of Babe Ruth's most important and highly prized baseball cards and one that would be a worthy addition to even the most advanced collection.
