Rarely offered near-complete set of 1927 E210 York Caramels (Type 1) cards. This near-complete set includes twenty-two Hall of Famers, highlighted by Ty Cobb and Walter Johnson. Included are fifty cards, missing only #1 Grimes, 6 Ruth, 8 Pennock, 13 Hornsby, 15, 25 Wilson, 41, 43 Robinson, 54 Sisler, and 57 Coveleski for completion. Condition is 26% Gd (including a couple Vg) and 74% Pr to Gd. Keys: #4 Faber (Gd), 10 Sewell (Gd), 14 Traynor (Gd), 22 Heilmann (Fr), 23 Schalk (Pr-Fr), 27 Cobb, (gray back, Fr), 28 Speaker (Pr-Fr due to paper loss on reverse), 42 McGraw (Pr-Fr), 44 Alexander (gray back, Fr), 45 Johnson (Fr), 46 Terry (Pr-Fr), 47 Collins (Pr), 49 Goslin (gray back, Pr-Fr due to paper loss on back), and 50 Frisch (Gd). The E210 York Caramel set is identical in design to several other issues of the era, such as Tharp's Ice Cream, Sweetman, and Harrington's Ice Cream, but with advertising for the "York Caramel Co." of York, Pennsylvania, on the reverse. Collectors have always appreciated the rarity and primitive charm of this distinctive candy issue. York Caramels appear to have been regionally issued, as they are rarely found outside of the Pennsylvania area. This is an extraordinary near-complete set of these distinctive and rare 1920s cards. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
