Outstanding original uncut strip of ten cards from the 1921 W516-2-1 strip-card set, highlighted by seven Hall of Famers, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Walter Johnson. The popular W516-2-1 strip-card set consists of thirty different Major Leaguers. This issue was originally sold in horizontal strips of ten, which were intended to be cut apart by hand by youngsters. Surviving complete as-issued uncut strips are extremely rare! This uncut strip, of course, is all the more remarkable as it includes #10 Ruth. In addition to Ruth, this ten-card strip ideally features six additional Hall of Famers: #2 Alexander, 3 Johnson, 4 Hornsby, 5 Cobb, 6 Speaker, and 7 Schalk. The three common players on the strip are #1 Burns, 8 Bodie, and 9 Groh. The strip is bright and clean, with vibrant colors, light wear on the corners, and is centered to the extreme right leaving no border. Ruth is an "end card" on the strip and because of this his card has no right border. There are three vertical creases which run from the top to bottom edges between cards #2-3, 5-6, and 8-9. Despite these minor flaws, the strip, which measures 2-3/8 by 14-3/4 inches, offers a superb opportunity to acquire an almost never seen complete uncut strip of W516-2-1s, in their original form as they were issued at the candy store in 1921, highlighted by New York Yankees Hall of Famer Babe Ruth. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
