Graded VG 40 by SGC. Hall of Famer Honus Wagner in a batting pose from the 1913 Base Ball Series Notebooks issue. This unusual and rare series has mystified and captured the attention of advanced collectors for decades. This colorful "card” actually originated from a children’s notebook cover that was designed with replicas of five baseball cards from the Philadelphia Caramel sets of 1909 (E95) and 1910 (E96), and has been neatly cut from the cover (very likely as intended, as they certainly are designed with the appearance of a card set). The card is printed on a thinner stock than actual E95 cards and with a blank-back. Bright and crisp, with four square corners, a strong image, bold colors, and perfect centering. The reverse is perfectly clean. The card is downgraded due to mild creasing (more visible on the reverse). This a rarely offered example of one of Wagner’s most unusual “cards” from one of the most interesting 1910-era issues. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
