Graded GOOD 30 by SGC (submitted by REA). Very attractive example of #872 Honus Wagner from the 1913-1915 "Pinkerton" Postcard series. This series is closely related to the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet issue, and features the very same images and caption designs (in 3.5 x 5.5-inch postcard size), as appear on the T5 cabinets, though the actual issuer of the set is unknown. Multiple styles are known to exist for these postcards, including scorecard-back examples, which allowed the holder to fill in a lineup and score a game on the reverse of a player postcard. The offered example is a scorecard back variety, which is the most difficult of the three varieties to obtain. Featuring a black-and-white photo of the Hall of Fame shortstop in a batting pose, this card is crisp and clean, with a single crease near the bottom edge and even wear to the four corners. Centered to the top border. The card has been significantly downgraded by SGC due to several small areas of paper loss on the scorecard reverse, most likely from album removal. The scorecard reverse is unscored. An ideal sample featuring key Hall of Famer Honus Wagner from this rare 1910-era issue. Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.5 inches. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
