Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Very attractive 1910 S74 "White" Tobacco Silk of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, with its original advertising back paper perfect and intact. S74 silks are related to the T205 Gold Border series, and share the same basic player designs. There are two very similar S74 sets, one ever so slightly larger than the other. The centerpiece in each set is Ty Cobb. This smaller style "white silk" still has the Turkey Red Cigarettes paper backing attached to the reverse as originally issued (usually these advertising backs are missing). The silk is perfectly bright, clean, and crisp, with outstanding centering and light, even corner wear. A light horizontal crease is visible across the center (on front and more so on the paper backing), which is standard for this issue - it is how they are supposed to be - due to their method of issue (S74s were folded when issued, creating this light crease on the paper backing). One additional wrinkle is visible only on the reverse. There is light fraying at top and bottom, which is such a common flaw with tobacco silks. This Ty Cobb silk represents the key to the S74 "White" Silks set; it is in exceptional condition and would be a worthy addition to any Cobb, S74, or prewar-card collection. Reserve $500.
