Collection of thirty-seven different of the fifty cards comprising the N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" second series set, including all six baseball players highlighted by legendary Hall of Famer Buck Ewing. N29 Allen & Ginter "World's Champions" have long been recognized as one of the most beautiful of all nineteenth-century tobacco card issues. The set features champions and stars of the day from a wide variety of sports. Each card is neatly mounted to a slightly larger thick piece of white cardboard. It appears all these cards were displayed together on a much larger board and since have been cut apart to display each card individually. The cards have been beautifully preserved, with almost all presenting as Excellent or better. The colors are bright and the images are crisp. Affixing cards to album pages or cardboard in the manner presented here was extremely popular in the nineteenth century. Missing just the following thirteen cards for completion: Albert, Carter, Crist, Crocker, Cummings, Daly, Ives, Lange, Murphy, Paulsen, Ray, Rowe, and Temple. This is a very attractive and fascinating collection of N29 Allen & Ginter tobacco cards, representing a near-complete set of one of the nineteenth century's most popular issues. Total: 37 cards, all mounted to cardboard. Reserve $400. Estimate $1,000+.
