Graded GOOD 30 by SGC. Attractive example of Hall of Famer Chief Bender from the 1912 T227 "Series of Champions." Issued by Miners Extra and Honest Long Cut, T227 “Series of Champions” are unique in design. There are only twenty-five cards in the set, including four ballplayers. This example of Bender displays striking colors, no stains, even wear on the corners, and excellent centering. Moderate creasing, a tilted factory cut, and a bit of scuffing on the back account for the modestly assigned grade. The reverse features a biography of Bender and advertising for Honest Long Cut Tobacco. T227s, which were packaged in tobacco pouches without protection from either tobacco or general handling, rarely survive in high grade. This is a very presentable example of one of Bender's rarest and most unusual tobacco cards from this rare, uniquely designed, and, in our opinion, extremely overlooked tobacco issue. Reserve $200.
