Graded EX 60 by SGC. Highest-graded example! Extremely rare sample card of 1912-1913 T215 Red Cross Tobacco (Type 2), featuring Rebel Oakes of the St. Louis Cardinals. T215 Red Cross is one of tobacco-card collecting's most overlooked issues. Very similar in design and borrowing images from the T206 set, T215 Red Cross cards are believed to have been issued exclusively in the Louisiana area. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco issues, and bear blue captioning along the bottom, which easily distinguishes them from T206s. The offered example is bright, crisp, and clean, with bold colors, four strong corners, and excellent centering. The brilliant Red Cross advertisement on the reverse is perfectly clean and centered. A slightly tilted factory cut and slightly off-register color alignment are mentioned strictly for the sake of accuracy. This is a very attractive and desirable sample from one of tobacco-card collecting's rarest sets. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
