Graded VG 40 by SGC. Tremendously attractive Kalamazoo Bats tobacco card, with printed advertising on reverse, of A's first baseman Sid Farrar. Kalamazoo Bats are revered for their great rarity, unusual outdoor poses, unusual size, and unique design. This example perfectly showcases the great appeal of this rare nineteenth-century tobacco issue. Clean front with strong corners, and excellent centering. The photo is a little light, and with an abundance of interesting details that Kalamazoos are so well known for (such as the bleachers along with other players in the background and Farrar’s classic nineteenth-century pillbox cap). The printed advertisement on the reverse (which is of special note as most Kalamazoo Bats cards have blank backs) is misaligned and partially cut off. An extraordinary sample card from this desirable issue with the bonus of being a rare advertising-back example! From the Dan Gantt Collection. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
