Addendum (4/5/17, 3:52 PM): It has been brought to our attention that at one time this card had what appears to have been excess ink on the reverse. The card was offered at public auction in 2015 in an SGC 10 holder, and at some point in time, it was removed from the holder and the issues on the reverse were diminished (faint traces are still evident as seen in our photos) and some of the creases that are still present appear to have lightened. It is possible that a water soluble ink was present and the card was cleaned in that manner, but we have absolutely no way to know what was done to the card, nor does SGC. The card was graded by SGC as they saw it (there has been no change in grade) and is presented as such. Classic T206 portrait pose of Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson with the very scarce Hindu (brown) advertising reverse. This is a particularly rare and noteworthy combination! Rare-back T206s are always popular but are naturally all the more special when the card happens to feature one of the keys in the set. That is certainly the case here, as Walter Johnson's portrait card is one of the most desirable of all vintage Hall of Famer cards, one of the most popular of all T206 designs, and one of the most highly regarded of all Walter Johnson cards. This card is graded POOR 10 by SGC due to creasing, a couple pencil marks on the front, and a spot of paper loss on the reverse. It is well centered, with honest wear to the corners, and a striking yellow background. A T206 Walter Johnson portrait with a Hindu advertising back is a rare combination. This is a very presentable low-grade, rare-back example of one of the most popular cards in the entire T206 set. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
