Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA. Highest graded example! Bat-off-shoulder pose of Detroit Tigers Hall of Famer Ty Cobb with the extremely rare Uzit back. All Uzit backs are great rarities, but this card is all the more interesting and desirable because it features Ty Cobb and is the premier T206 card with an Uzit back. This is the only pose of Cobb in the T206 set which was printed with an Uzit advertising back. It is also interesting to note while the red background portrait card of Ty Cobb with an advertisement for Ty Cobb Tobacco (of which approximately twenty-two are known) is universally recognized as one of the most significant and valuable of all tobacco-card rarities, the Uzit back T206 Ty Cobb is actually even slightly rarer, with only ten examples graded by PSA and SGC combined to date! It has long been an almost mythical legendary rarity among rare T206 and all Ty Cobb cards. The card is bright and clean, with light, even wear to the corners, extremely bright and vibrant colors, and no creases. The perfect centering is also particularly striking. This is a beautiful card. Extremely close examination of the reverse reveals a very small and faint hint of a blemish in the upper right corner and the slightest hint of shadow toning in the lower corners, almost certainly relating to the card's being stored long ago in an old-fashioned album with "corners" in the 1930s or 1940s, long before plastic sheets or slabs were invented. This is consistent with the card's stellar condition. This card was obviously very well cared for to have survived in such extraordinary condition, and it probably was saved by a very serious collector in the earliest days of organized collecting, when the most advanced collectors began to use albums with paper "corners" to properly store and preserve their cards instead of pasting their cards into albums. The important Uzit advertisement on the reverse is clean and boldly printed. This is an incredible high-grade rarity featuring Hall of Famer Ty Cobb from the classic T206 set, which would be an extremely significant highlight in even the most advanced T206, rare-back, or Ty Cobb collection. Reserve $10,000. Estimate (open).
