Graded VG/EX 50 by SGC. Attractive example of the rare Ray Demmitt, St. Louis Americans, T206 variation, in extremely high grade for this key T206 rarity. Only five T206 examples of Demmitt, St. Louis Americans, have ever been graded higher by SGC (one VG/EX+ 55, three EX 60, and one EX+ 70). Polar Bear was the only company to issue this T206 variation and this fact explains why Demmitt is so difficult to find in high grade. The packaged cards issued with Polar Bear tobacco were not well protected from the accompanying product; thus, almost all Demmitt cards have at least some tobacco staining (as is the case with the offered example, which has far less than most T206 Polar Bear cards). Bright and crisp, both front and back, with even wear to the four corners, strong colors, and centered slightly toward the top left. Free of any creases or wrinkles. The back has bold white printing set against a dark blue background. This is an exceptionally attractive high-grade example of one of the rarest cards in the classic T206 White Border set. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
