Exceptionally rare 1888 N173 Dogs Head cabinet card featuring Billy Nash (#340-6 pose) of the Boston Beaneaters. This stunning card is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of fifteen N173s, including five Hall of Famers and two Dogs Head cards, discovered by a non-collector in Maine among the possessions of his grandfather, all consigned to this auction. All N173 Old Judges are rare, but examples with Dogs Head advertising are particularly rare, and extremely desirable among serious pre-1900 and sample-card collectors. This card features a striking photo of Nash throwing. The image on this card is very bold, with strong contrast and tremendous detail. The mount is perfectly clean, with virtually no wear at the corners and a well-centered image. An extremely rare and striking sample card from this legendary nineteenth-century cabinet-card series. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000++.
