This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! 1888 N173 Goodwin Old Judge cabinet card of Hall of Famer Charles Comiskey dating from his playing days as leader and player-manager of the legendary World Champion St. Louis Browns. This card is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of fifteen N173s, including five Hall of Famers and two Dogs Head cards, discovered by a non-collector in Maine among the possessions of his grandfather, all consigned to this auction. This card features a striking photo of "Commy" with hands outstretched, ready to catch a ball at first (pose #86-3). This is a very attractive card, with advertising and player identification within the photo more elaborate and prominent than on most Old Judge cards. Extremely clean both front and back, with particularly strong photo contrast and detail. There are no creases, and virtually no corner or edge wear. This is a magnificent, very high-grade Hall of Famer Old Judge cabinet of "The Old Roman," Charles Comiskey, with an exceptionally strong visual appeal. Excellent condition. Reserve $2,000. Estimate $4,000+.
