Extremely desirable 1888 N173 Old Judge cabinet card of Hall of Famer Hugh Duffy (pose #135-1) dating from his playing days as a shortstop with the Chicago White Stockings. This card is part of an exciting, fresh-to-the-hobby find of fifteen N173s, including five Hall of Famers and two Dogs Head cards, discovered by a non-collector in Maine among the possessions of his grandfather, all consigned to this auction. This card presents extremely well, with a strong image displaying outstanding contrast. There are three tack holes present at the top and bottom of the mount (not affecting the card's exceptional visual appeal but affecting its technical grade; the cabinet card was very likely mounted to a wall at one time and removed). This is a very attractive and relatively affordable example of this significant N173 Hall of Famer, which would be worthy addition to any nineteenth-century, Hall of Famer, or N173 Old Judge cabinet collection. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
