Graded MINT 96 by SGC. This is the ONLY example graded at this level with none higher! Superb ultra high-grade example of Ed Cicotte (Chicago White Sox) from the E270-2 Colgan's Chips "Tin Tops" series. Cicotte is notable for having been thrown out of baseball for his participation in the infamous Black Sox scandal. Among the most unique and distinctive cards ever produced are the various Colgan's Chips issues, beginning with the 1909-1911 E254 "Stars of the Diamond" set and concluding with the E270-2 "Tin Tops" issued a few years later. The cards are actually circular (1-7/16 inches in diameter) and were issued as inserts with Colgan's Chips products in the company's trademark round tins. E270-2 cards were inserted with Colgan's Violet or Mint Chips, as noted on the backs, which easily distinguishes these cards from their more common E254 counterparts. The offered card is pedigreed as having originated from the "Skydash Collection," which refers to a large 2007 find of 1910-era cards, including approximately 200 cards from the E270-2 set. As expected, the offered example is virtually flawless, with a crisp image, no significant chipping, and a boldly printed reverse. This is a tremendous opportunity to acquire an exceptionally attractive example in remarkably high grade from this very rare and desirable issue. From the Dan Gantt Collection. Reserve $300.
