Exceptional pair of cards from the E103 Williams Caramel issue, each graded and encapsulated by PSA. This pair consists of Chas. Dooin (VG-EX 4) and John Ewing (VG 3). The E103 Williams Caramel set is easily distinguished from other caramel sets of the era by the bright red background highlighting each player's portrait. As noted on each card along the lower margin, the Williams Candy Company was located in Oxford, Pennsylvania, and this candy was very likely issued on a somewhat regional basis. This fact almost certainly accounts for their great rarity. When they are found, they usually have serious condition problems, which is not surprising considering that these cards were issued to children one card per package of candy. Each card is crisp and clean, both front and back, with bright white borders, bold red backgrounds, and four strong corners. This is an extraordinary pair of cards, each worthy of the world's finest E103 set or sample-card collection. Total: 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
