Rarely seen complete set of E93 Standard Caramel, entirely graded and encapsulated by PSA (20) and SGC (10). This classic 30-card set, issued in 1910 by the Standard Caramel Co. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, has a remarkable sixteen Hall of Famers, highlighted by many of the greatest stars of the era, including Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Honus Wagner, Cy Young, etc. The E93 set is closely related to several other candy sets from the era which share the same format and, in many cases, the same player image. Like most 1910-era tobacco and "E" card issues, E93 Standard Caramel Company cards each measure approximately 1.5 x 2.75 inches. The set is composed almost exclusively of Hall of Famers and major stars. Grading Composite: SGC EX/NM 80 (1 card): Delehanty (Nagy Collection). PSA EX 5 (7 cards): Bender (HOF, SGC EX 60), Clarke (HOF), Donovan, Gibson, Jones, Leach (SGC EX 60), and McGraw (HOF). PSA VG-EX+ 4.5 (1 card): Jennings (HOF). PSA VG-EX 4 (10 cards): Ames, Chase, Collins (HOF), Dooin, Evers (HOF), Joss (HOF), Pastorious, Tinker (HOF, SGC VG/EX 50), Wiltse, and Young (HOF). SGC VG+ 45 (1 card): Chance (HOF). PSA VG 3 (6 cards): Brown (HOF, SGC VG 40), Griffith (HOF), Lajoie (HOF), Mathewson (HOF), Phillippi (SGC VG 40), and Plank (HOF). PSA GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): Wagner (HOF). SGC GOOD 30 (3 cards): Cobb (HOF), Coveleskie, and Waddell (HOF). Because they were issued with candy to kids, one card per package, caramel cards in general tend to survive in far lesser condition than their more common tobacco-card counterparts. E93 Standard Caramel is one of the most popular and colorful of all "E" card issues. This is an extremely attractive mixed-grade set with many highlights. Because of the high concentration of stars and major Hall of Famers, the set naturally has a substantial "break value." The equivalent SMR value for this set (factoring in the three half-grades at the lower whole-grade level) is $10,485. Total: 30 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++.
