Complete set of fifty 1888 N31 Allen & Ginter "World's Dudes" cards, all graded and encapsulated by SGC (submitted by REA). Presented is a very attractive high-grade complete set of these scarce and colorful tobacco cards, with thirty-three cards ranging from Ex to Ex-Mt, five are Vg-Ex+, eight Vg-Ex, two Vg+, and two Vg. In the following condition composite, cards are identified by the numbers provided by the American Tobacco Cards Price Guide checklist. The complete SGC condition composite follows: EX/NM 80 (3 cards): #36, 37, and 46. EX+ 70 (8 cards): #4, 9, 11, 14, 20, 32, 40, and 41. EX 60 (22 cards): #5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 31, 33, 34, 42, 45, 48, and 50. VG/EX+ 55 (5 cards): #1, 3, 30, 38, and 44. VG/EX 50 (8 cards): #2, 15, 16, 17, 21, 35, 43, and 49. VG+ 45 (2 cards): #25 and 47. VG 40 (2 cards): #13 and 39. Issued with Allen & Ginter Cigarettes, the set is entitled "World's Dudes." The cards feature beautiful colorful lithographs of well-to-do gentlemen, from different areas of the world, engaged in various activities, dressed in silly outfits. These cards were obviously making fun of the well-to-do of the day. The back of each card features the checklist for the set. This is an extremely attractive set, with fascinating subject matter, and with outstanding eye-appeal. This set is from the collection of a very advanced longtime nonsport collector. Allen & Ginter's "World's Dudes" are rarely offered as a complete set (in fact this is only the second complete set we have ever sold in the last thirteen years), and are highly prized by nineteenth-century nonsport tobacco-card collectors. Total: 50 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+.
