Playboy magazine will forever be recognized for its social significance in reflecting as well as contributing to popular American culture. Early issues are especially rare and highly collectible. Presented is the iconic first issue of Playboy (Volume 1; Number 1; December, 1953) featuring Marilyn Monroe on the cover; both this issue and Marilyn Monroe are among the most recognizable icons of popular culture and Americana. The offered copy displays a heavy vertical center fold, general overall handling wear, and two tiny areas of what appears to be Wite-Out (correction fluid) on the front cover. It also possible that the covers have been reinforced along the interior spine by means of an adhesive. Complete as issued. In Good to Very Good condition overall. Reserve $400.
