Gerald Ford personal “check,” dated September 8, 1974, signed by Gerald Ford, 38th President of the United States. The “check” is made out to “Richard M. Nixon” in the amount of $100,000 and has been signed “Gerald Ford” in black felt-tip pen (grading “10”) along the base. This manufactured “check” was obviously created in jest, and Ford was good-natured enough to sign it. September 8, 1974, of course, was the date that Ford pardoned former United States President Richard Nixon for any crimes he might have committed against the United States while he was President. Checks signed by President Ford are scarce and while this is not an actual check, it’s value as a conversation piece alone makes it a suitable placeholder for collectors still in search of the genuine article. This is certainly one of the most novel political pieces we have handled. The “check” (8 x 3 inches) remains in Excellent condition. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
