Collection of three full tickets to the World's Heavyweight Championship fight between champion Muhammad Ali and Floyd Patterson at the Las Vegas Convention Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on November 22, 1965. Also included is an exceedingly rare ticket envelope from the "Press Headquarters Dunes Hotel & Country Club" (we have never seen another example). These three tickets, labeled, respectively, "Working Press Box," "Worker's Pass," and "Ringside Working Press," were all issued for either press or staff, and were not valid for regular admission. All are identical in design and feature portrait images of both Ali and Patterson. Ali defeated Patterson by technical knockout in the twelfth round in what was one of the uglier bouts in Ali's memorable career. Prior to the fight Patterson refused to recognize Ali by his new Muslim name, and instead referred to him by Ali's birth name, Cassius Clay. Ali, in turn, called Patterson an "Uncle Tom." During the fight, Ali verbally taunted Patterson while punishing him for twelve rounds until the referee mercifully stopped it. Each ticket (6 x 2.5 inches) is in Ex-Mt/Nr-Mt condition. The envelope (9.5 x 4 inches) is in Very Good to Excellent condition. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
