Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. This is the ONLY example graded at this level by PSA with none higher out of twenty cards evaluated to date. Exceptional high-grade example of Hall of Famer Jerry West’s rookie card from the extremely scarce 1960-1961 Kahn’s Wieners basketball set. Kahn's Wieners cards are one of the few food issues of the era and are far rarer than most other basketball cards issued in the 1960s. The very scarce 1960-1961 Kahn's Wieners basketball set features eleven members of the Cincinnati Royals as well as Los Angeles Lakers star Jerry West. It is interesting to note that West was the only other player that the company selected, outside of Cincinnati Royals players, to be included in the set. One card was issued with each package of Kahn's meats. Because of the product with which they were packaged, heavy grease stains and creases are common with this issue, making it all the more difficult to acquire a high-grade example. All Kahn's meats cards are condition rarities! This is an extraordinary example of one of the key stars of the set. Crisp and clean, with a flawless image and four sharp corners showing tiny touches of wear under close inspection. Clean reverse with bold print centered to the far right. It is fascinating to note that the text on the back of this rookie card reports that "He should be a star for years to come. The Lakers expect West to be in the thick of the battle for 'Rookie of the Year' in the NBA." This is an outstanding high-grade example of Jerry West from this distinctive and very scarce 1960s regional issue, which predates his 1961-1962 Fleer card and is thus considered by many to be his "true rookie" card. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000++.
