Rare 1965 New York Jets die-cut easel-back cardboard advertising display issued by Rheingold. The colorful display, which was meant to stand freely on a counter, features artwork by famed cartoonist Willard Mullin and includes the Jets 1965 home schedule along the base. The comical illustration captures Jets coach Weeb Ewbank drawing up a complicated play on the chalk board for the enormous Jets player seated on the bench in front of him. An advertisement for Rheingold "Extra Dry Lager Beer" appears in the lower right corner. 1965, of course, is the year that "Broadway Joe" Namath made his debut with the Jets, making this a significant commemorative piece from his rookie season. The display (15.5 x 20.75 inches) is complete with its easel back and shows light foxing throughout, as well as minor edge wear. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. This is the first example we have ever offered and we cannot recall having seen another. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
