Addendum (4/5/17, 10:40 AM): SGC does not keep records regarding the reason a card grades the way it does, but further examination of this card after several bidder inquiries reveals that a very slight trim may also have contributed to the Authentic designation though we cannot be sure. This extremely rare and desirable E90-1 American Caramel card of the legendary Joe Jackson is one of only a handful of cards of Joe Jackson issued during his playing days, and is indisputably recognized as Joe Jackson's rookie card. This card is also one of the rarest in the entire E90-1 American Caramel card set. In recent years, the E90-1 American Caramel Joe Jackson has become universally recognized as one of card collecting's most valuable and famous vintage-card rarities. Jackson was always a very rare card in the E90-1 set, but as knowledge has increased, it has become more apparent that this card is truly the key to the set. It is not unusual to find the Joe Jackson card missing from any set or collection of E90-1, whether it is newly discovered or presented at auction after years of assembly. This card dates from extremely early in Joe Jackson’s career, when he was a member of Connie Mack’s Philadelphia A’s. Jackson played only ten games with the Athletics before Mack traded him to Cleveland. Bright and crisp with near-flawless registration (which can sometimes be an issue with this card), bold colors, and excellent centering. Light, even wear at the corners. Clean, boldly printed reverse. Several faint unobtrusive creases are present on both sides but are mostly visible from the reverse. Encapsulated as "Authentic" due to the card likely being soaked to remove from an album. An E90-1 Joe Jackson is a card that (just like a T206 Wagner) is always of great interest to collectors in any condition. The offered example, regardless of not being numerically graded, is a tremendous card, superior to many others we have seen, and one that will always be of great interest to E90-1 and Joe Jackson collectors. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open).
