Presented is a sample card of Hall of Famer Eddie Collins from the 1911 D359 Rochester Baking series. D359s are among the rarest of all 1910-era issues. Produced to commemorate the Athletics’ 1910 Championship season, the set features exclusively Athletics, including manager Connie Mack. Four different companies (Rochester Baking, Williams Baking, Cullivan’s Fireside Tobacco, and blank-backed versions catalogued as E104-1 Nadja) issued the 18-card Philadelphia Athletics set in 1911. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco and candy issues, but are considerably rarer than most 1910-era “E” and “T” card issues. This sample is bright and clean, with outstanding centering and a striking red background. Graded POOR 10 by SGC, this example displays a surface-breaking horizontal crease and a missing upper right corner. The reverse shows evidence of scrapbook removal in the form of paper loss and glue residue. Desirable sample card featuring Hall of Famer Eddie Collins from this rare bakery-card set. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
