Graded VG 40 by SGC. One of only two examples graded at this level with none higher! Very attractive sample card of Cy Morgan from the 1911 D359 Rochester Baking series. D359s are among the rarest of all 1910-era issues. Produced to commemorate the Athletics’ 1910 Championship season, the set features exclusively Athletics, including manager Connie Mack. Four different companies (Rochester Baking, Williams Baking, Cullivan’s Fireside Tobacco, and blank-backed versions catalogued as E104-1 Nadja) issued the 18-card Philadelphia Athletics set in 1911. The cards measure 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 inches, which is the standard size for tobacco and candy issues, but are considerably rarer than most 1910-era “E” and “T” card issues. This example is well centered, with a bright orange background and even wear to the four corners (slightly more wear on the upper left). There is a diagonal crease in the upper right. Light soiling is visible on the boldly printed reverse. This is an extremely attractive sample card from this rare bakery-card set. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+.
