Outstanding Philadelphia Phillies road jersey worn by Hall of Fame pitcher Steve Carlton during the club's 1980 World Championship season. 1980 was also the year in which Carlton won his third Cy Young Award (out of an eventual four). Graded A10 by MEARS. The blue-knit jersey, with zipper front, features the Phillies team logo on the left breast and the number "32" on the right breast and reverse. "Carlton" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in maroon on white tackle twill. The name "Carlton" is chain-stitched in blue upon a blue strip tag in the collard. A "Wilson 46" label appears on the left front tail. Located below the manufacturer's tag are both the year and set number ("80 1") chain-stitched in blue on a small, blue strip tag. Carlton has inscribed the jersey "Best Wishes Steve Carlton" in blue Sharpie (grading "9') on the left breast, directly above the team logo. The jersey, which is original as issued, with no alterations, displays moderate wear and the zipper remains fully functional. "Lefty" enjoyed one of the finest overall seasons of his career in 1980. In addition to leading the league in wins (24), innings pitched (304), games started (38) and strikeouts (286), he also finished the year with a 2.34 ERA, which was the third lowest mark of his career. Those numbers not only helped lead the Phillies to their first World Championship in franchise history, but also earned Carlton the Cy Young Award at season's end. This is one of the finest Steve Carlton game-used jerseys we have ever seen and the fact that it dates to the club's first World Championship season makes it especially significant. Graded A10 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with no deductions). LOA from MEARS. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $2,500.
