San Francisco Giants road jersey worn by Hall of Fame slugger Willie McCovey in 1971. Graded A9 by MEARS. The gray flannel jersey is lettered "San Francisco" across the front and features the number "44" on the reverse. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in black on orange tackle twill. "McCovey" is chain-stitched in black upon a gray strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Rawlings 44" label, a laundry tag, and an adjacent flag tag that reads "Set 1 #8P 1971." Both the size and year ("44 71") are chain-stitched in black directly below the laundry tag. The jersey is original as issued, with no alterations, and displays light-to-moderate wear. Hampered by a knee injury, McCovey only appeared in 105 games in 1971, but still managed to hit 18 home runs with 70 RBI. He finished the year with a .277 batting average. A former Rookie of the Year and MVP Award winner, McCovey finished his career with 521 home runs, 1,555 RBI, and a .270 batting average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1986, his first year of eligibility. Graded A9 by MEARS (base grade of 10, with 1 point deducted for the light-to-moderate use). LOA from MEARS. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $10,000+.
