News photo of Joe DiMaggio taken in the locker room after the end of his historic 56-game hitting streak in front of 67,468 fans at Cleveland Stadium on July 17, 1941. Certified as an original Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA. If DiMaggio were upset that his record streak was finally over, one could never tell given wide grin on his face in the locker room afterwards. A Wide World Photos (Cleveland Bureau) credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the original paper news caption, which is dated "7-18-41." The caption headline reads "Joe DiMaggio Goes Hitless in 57th Game!, while the text details the game action and describes the locker-room scene pictured: "Photo Above shows Joe DiMaggio forming a 'goose egg' with his fingers against his baseball bat to denote 'no hits' tonight." DiMaggio was held hitless in three at bats by Indians pitcher Jim Bagby, thanks in large part to two outstanding fielding plays by Indians third baseman Ken Keltner. The photo (7 x 9 inches) displays a number of moderate creases throughout and is in Very Good condition. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
