Rare retail Coca-Cola advertising display designed in the form of a dual scoreboard to mark the scores of both St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns game. The display also has a designated area where the retailer can list the batteries for each game. A 1935 copyright date is printed in the lower left corner. This is the first example of this dual Cardinals/Browns scoreboard we have ever seen and its great rarity today is almost certainly based upon the fact that it was a regional issue. The Cardinals were the reigning World Champions in 1935, but the Coca-Cola company wisely chose not to snub their American League rivals when designing this colorful display, especially since they both shared the same stadium, Sportsman's Park. (Browns fans drank a lot of Coca-Cola too!). The display (29.5 x 19.5 inches), which is constructed of heavy cardboard, has two metal grommets along the top border so that it can be easily hung. Light-to-moderate surface wear is evident, including a small tear/abrasion in the upper right corner. In Excellent condition overall. This is an outstanding display piece and one that would appeal to collectors of both Coca-Cola and baseball memorabilia. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $600. Estimate (open).
