Extremely rare pair of 1909 Spargo Hartford Senators Postcards. One card features Edward Justice and the other is a Team Composite featuring fifteen members, both are uncatalogued in the Standard Catalog. This is a very unusual set featuring only Hartford Senators players. Members of the Connecticut League (Class B) champions are depicted in black-and-white portrait images with the player’s name printed below the image. The Justice example is graded and encapsulated GOOD+ 35 by SGC while the Team Composite would grade Good due to an ink mark at the top. Both cards have no writing on the traditional postcard reverse and have never been mailed. Despite a few technical faults, these remain a very attractive pair and are ideal sample cards from this rare and unusual early twentieth-century postcard issue. The Standard Catalog lists four players as definitely known from the set, but notes that it is likely that other members of the team exist that have yet to be reported. Total: 2 postcards. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
