News photo capturing the 1926 American League Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Certified as an original Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA. Pictured here posing together in front of the grandstands at Yankee Stadium are thirty-two team members, including Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Tony Lazzeri, Miller Huggins (Mgr.), Herb Pennock, and Waite Hoyt. A "Pictorial Press Photos" credit stamp appears on the reverse. This particular photo has a unique provenance. According to our consignor, it was obtained directly from the estate of Myles Thomas, who is pictured in the bottom row, second from the right (the photo was discovered in a scrapbook kept by the family). The Yankees were defeated by the Cardinals in seven games in the 1926 World Series, but the roster seen here was basically the same one that captured consecutive World Championships in the following two seasons. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays light trimming along all four borders, as well as a tiny tear along the lower left edge. Paper residue remains on the reverse from its having been removed from the family scrapbook. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate $500++.
