News photo capturing game action of Babe Ruth sliding into second base during the second game of the 1921 World Series against the New York Giants at the Polo Grounds. Certified as an original Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA. A Wide World Photos credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does the original paper news caption, which is dated "10/6/21." The caption describes the scene shown (in part): "The photo shows Babe Ruth, safe after a clean steal of second, following which he immediately stole third." 1921 marked the first World Series appearance for the New York Yankees, making this one of the earliest known photos documenting the Yankees' long and storied history in the fall classic. The fact that it features Ruth, sliding no less, only adds to its appeal. The photo (8 x 6 inches) displays two tiny corner chips (upper and lower left) and light-to-moderate creasing. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
