Classic news photo of Babe Ruth signing bats and balls for the troops. Certified as an original Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA. Ruth is pictured in formal attire, seated on a chair, as he signs a bat. A bevy of balls sits at his feet while dozens of bats are lined against the wall. Signs bearing the names of various military bases indicate where the bats are headed. This is a famous image and one that has been reprinted in countless publications. An International Newsreel credit stamp appears on the reverse, as does a remnant of the original paper news caption. This photo originates from the Baseball Magazine archives and bears a hologram sticker on the reverse that was placed there by Christies auction house during its sale of the archives in 1996. The photo (8.5 x 6.5 inches) displays a chip in the right border and upper right corner, tack holes in each of the remaining three corners, light creases, and a small abrasion along the bottom white border. In Very Good condition overall. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
