This circa 1915 H&B Louisville Slugger "27" mini decal bat features a colorful portrait of Joe Jackson on the barrel as well as the "Louisville Slugger" brand name and Jackson's facsimile signature. It is very rare to find any early portrait decal bat in such high grade. They are extremely condition-sensitive, with most surviving examples displaying wear and numerous chips or flaking to the painted label. This example displays only one tiny chip to the decal (just to the left of Jackson's image) and the decal retains approximately 98% of its original paint. Overall, the decal grades "8/9" (on a scale of "1" to "10"). The bat (17.75 inches in length) displays a few minor nicks and light grain separation near the upper handle. In Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
