Original circa 1914 Charles Conlon news photo capturing Hall of Fame pitcher Walter Johnson as a member of the Washington Senators. Certified as an original Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA. This is an extraordinary original photograph of Walter Johnson by the universally recognized master of baseball photography. The fabled "Big Train" is pictured here warming up on the sidelines prior to a game, displaying the pitching form that made him the bane of American League batters for nearly two decades. Conlon's proprietary credit stamp ("Evening Telegram") appears on the reverse, as does the name "Walter Johnson," which is written in pencil. The uniform style shown here was used by Washington only from the years 1912 through 1915, which helps to narrow the date of the photo to that four-year span. The photo (8 x 10 inches) displays a small chip in the lower right corner, a tiny edge tear along the top border, a small abrasion to the left border, and a few tiny surface wrinkles. In Very Good to Excellent condition overall. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
