Exceedingly rare Cleveland Naps oversized pennant, circa 1910, featuring Hall of Fame second baseman Nap Lajoie. This is the first example of this particular Cleveland Naps pennant we have ever seen! The blue-felt pennant features an illustration of a Cleveland batter that is identified as "Lajoie of the 'Naps'." (Interestingly, the artist neglected the fact that Lajoie batted right handed, not left handed as shown here.) "Cleveland" is lettered to the right of the image. The Cleveland Indians were known as the "Naps" for the entire time that Lajoie was with the club (1902-1914), which included five seasons as player/manager (1905-1909). This is one of only three different Cleveland Nap pennants we have ever seen and the only one to specifically identify Lajoie as the player pictured. The pennant (35.5 inches in length), which is complete with tassels, displays only light wear and is in Excellent to Mint condition overall, bordering on Near Mint. Reserve $500. Estimate (open).
