Large-format chromolithograph featuring a beautiful scene of young children playing baseball. Interestingly, three of the four participants are girls, with the lone boy serving as catcher. This is a poignant image that truly evokes the pastoral roots of the game. A 1900 copyright notice by "Jos. Hoover & Sons" of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, appears in the lower right corner. (Hoover & Sons was one of the largest print publishers in the country at the time, known for its production of high-quality prints.) The chromolithograph (20 x 16 inches) displays a few small abrasions along the base and bottom right corner; otherwise it remains in apparent Excellent to Mint condition. Ornately framed to total dimensions of 30 x 26 inches. The substantial size/weight of this item requires that there will be a shipping charge for this lot (which will vary depending upon where it is being shipped). The shipping charge will be billed separately from the auction invoice. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
