Two-page fold-over scorecard for an 1884 National League game between the New York Gothams and Cleveland Blues held at the Polo Grounds in New York. The colorful cover features a comic illustration of a fielder, below which is the caption "It’s Over Your Head." The preprinted lineups include John Ward, Roger Connor, and Mickey Welch for New York, and George Pinkney, Doc Bushong, and Bill Phillips for Cleveland. Neatly scored in pencil to record a 2-2 tie. Although the players listed in the scorecard conclusively date it to the 1884 season, there is no record of a 2-2 tie between the clubs that year. (It is very possible that the scorer either stopped scoring the game after the ninth inning or left the game after the ninth; there were a number of games between the two at the Polo Grounds in which the losing team had two runs.) The vintage pencil notation “Giants 1884” appears on the front cover. The scorecard (3.75 x 6 inches; folded) displays moderate wear and is in Excellent condition overall. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
