M114 Baseball Magazine premium of Jimmie Foxx, signed by Foxx in blue fountain pen (grading "8") vertically atop his image. According to our consignor, this premium originates from the family of a boy who was stricken with tuberculosis in the late 1930s/early 1940s. During his approximate two-year hospital stay, he passed the time by writing major league players and asking for their autograph on various photos. This is one of the many he received at the time. (The remainder of the group, 18 M114 premiums and a George Burke real-photo postcard, is being offered as a separate lot in this auction.) The premium (9.5 x 12 inches) displays water staining in the lower-right quadrant, a pinhole, and a number of small edge tears. In Good condition overall, but most of the flaws are in the border areas and can matted out if desired. Auction LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500+.
