Photo of Walter Johnson as a member of the Washington Senators, taken by noted baseball photographer George Burke, signed by the Hall of Fame pitcher on the front. Johnson has inscribed the photo “Hello Charles/Best Wishes/Walter Johnson” in green fountain pen (“8”) across his image. Burke’s red credit stamp, reading “Geo Burke/847 Belmont Ave./Chicago,” appears on the reverse, along with a few additional typed and handwritten notations, including Johnson’s name. Based upon the uniform style shown here, this photo was taken during the early to mid 1920’s, but appears to have been produced during the 1930s or 1940s. This is one of only three Burke photos signed by Johnson we have seen and the first we have offered. The photo (4 x 6 inches) displays very minor corner wear and is in Excellent condition overall. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $300. Estimate $1,000+.
