Photo of Dazzy Vance as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, taken by noted baseball photographer George Burke, signed by the Hall of Fame pitcher on the front. This particular photo was originally presented by Vance to his teammate Rip Collins, as noted by the black fountain-pen inscription (grading “9/10”) that reads “To Rip Collins/A fine player/and a great star/A. C. ‘Dazzy’ Vance.” Burke’s black credit stamp, reading “Geo Burke/847 Belmont Ave./Chicago,” appears on the reverse. Vance played with St. Louis only in 1933 and 1934, thereby narrowing the time frame in which this photo was taken. This is the only Burke photo signed by Dazzy Vance we have seen, making it not only an exceptional example, but possibly a unique one as well. The photo (4 x 6 inches) remains in Excellent to Mint condition. Full LOA from James Spence/JSA. Pre certified by Steve Grad and Brian Sobrero/Beckett Authentication. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
