Original 1970 Topps uncut proof sheet of forty-four cards with blank-backs. All cards on this sheet are from the third series. Arranged in four rows of eleven cards, highlighted by four Hall of Famers, including Roberto Clemente, Tom Seaver, Lou Brock, and Leo Durocher. Of special note on this sheet is the card of #359 Phil Roof. On the offered sheet, Roof is batting as a member of the Oakland A's. Shortly after this sheet was produced, Roof was traded to the Seattle Pilots and appears in a portrait pose on his final-issue card. Light wear along the edges and at the corners, no creases or wrinkles, and vibrant colors. Small edge ding at the top affecting the Clemente. The left and right side have both been cut against the edge of the cards in the end rows. Grading of sheets has always posed a problem as we naturally tend to grade a sheet as if it were a "big card" when really a grade does not capture the condition or visual appeal of a sheet (all the more so as sheets tend to be large). That is certainly the case here. Technically in Excellent condition due to very minor flaws, but if framed and hung on a wall it would project a spectacular Nr/Mt or better appearance. The sheet measures 27-1/4 x 14 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
