Extremely rare three-card salesman sample advertising panel for the 1955 Topps series featuring cards #79 Schell, 12 Thies, and 76 Pollet. Salesman sample panels were issued for use exactly as their name suggests: salesmen would carry them around to illustrate to prospective vendors what the upcoming Topps series would look like in the hope of promoting sales. The front of the panel appears just like regular issue cards while the backs on this year correspond to the fronts. An advertising sticker covers the back of the center card that references both the regular series and the Double Header series and in addition the 1955 Topps ad panels have a Double Header card (in this case #59-60 Glynn/Miller) stapled to the reverse of the bottom card. Complete salesman sample panels have always been extremely desirable and quite rare as they were obviously produced in very modest quantities due to their intended purpose of advertising only to vendors. The offered panel is bright and clean, with two small creases (in the upper left and bottom right corners), and even wear to the corners (with slightly more to the lower right). Clean, boldly printed reverse. Extremely attractive Topps advertising panel that would be at home in any Topps salesman sample panel collection or would serve as an ideal companion piece to any 1955 Topps collection. Dimensions: 7.5 x 3.5 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate (open).
