Presented is an extremely rare near-complete set of thirty different cards from the 1955 Hunter Wieners set highlighted by Hall of Famers Stan Musial (one of his rarest and most desirable cards) and Red Schoendienst. Missing only one card for completion (Schofield). This is the first complete (or near-complete) set of this exceptionally rare regional issue that we have ever handled or seen offered in a public auction! This regionally issued set features exclusively St. Louis Cardinals players. The 1955 Hunter Wieners cards were issued on each pack of Hunter hot dogs. Instead of two player cards per pack like the sets issued in the prior years, the company inserted one card onto the package. Condition has always been a problem with these cards due to their method of issue. The panels in this collection present extremely well, with bright colors and crisp images, and are in far better condition than is normally found. This near-complete set also has the incredible distinction of being the first matched assembly with the entire panel complete that we have ever seen! Often cards from this series are found cut down (as instructed), sometimes resulting in uneven cuts that may affect the image area. All the cards in the offered complete set (minus one) are complete with instructions! This is an outstanding complete set (minus one)! Each card has been professionally graded and encapsulated by PSA (submitted by REA). PSA Grading Composite: VG-EX 4 (8 cards): Alston, Boyer, Elliot, Grammas, Jacobs, LaPalme, Lawrence, and Posedel. VG+ 3.5 (6 cards): Frazier, Musial (HOF), Raschi, Rice, Sarni, and Walker. VG 3 (7 cards): Faszholz, Hemus, Jackson, Riddle, Stephenson, Virdon, and Wooldridge. GOOD+ 2.5 (5 cards): Haddix, Jones, Moon, Schoendienst (HOF), and Tiefenauer. GOOD 2 (4 cards): Poholsky, Repulski, Smith, and Stanky. This is an extremely attractive complete set (minus one) with far less problems than expected with cards packaged with food as these were. An impressive complete set (minus one), the first we have ever offered, of these classic 1950s regionally issued cards highlighted by the presence of two key Hall of Famers. Total: 30 cards. Reserve $2,500. Estimate (open).
