1953 Topps display poster (6.75 x 11 inches) features a giant illustration of Bob Feller's 1953 Topps card, and advertises for the then just released 1953 Topps set. This colorful and graphic thin-stock poster was provided by Topps to retailers for store display. Rare and extremely attractive, this is the most impressive of the very few early 1950s Topps baseball-card advertising displays. It is also an often overlooked and significant rarity from the earliest days of Topps baseball cards, in part because there are so many reproductions of this poster which regularly turn up on eBay and elsewhere. It is a favorite of forgers of baseball advertising displays because it is so colorful and attractive. Originals are very rare! We have seen fewer than a dozen authentic examples during the past forty years. This is a rare original! The poster has two natural horizontal fold lines (as issued) with some light wrinkles and pencil notations on the back, otherwise it remains in Excellent condition. The blank reverse still has the original strips of clear glue across the top and bottom which the candy store owner was supposed to wet, so to attach the poster to the store window. Reserve $300. Estimate (open).
