Complete set of fifty-two cards (all with tabs) from the 1952 Red Man Tobacco series. This was the first of the four Red Man sets issued from 1952 to 1955. Red Man Tobacco cards are among the most beautiful cards ever issued and also represent one of the best values of all cards from the 1950s. These cards have long been a special favorite of collectors, and with good reason: They are far rarer than Topps issues from the era; they are unusual; they are relatively small sets; and each set includes so many great stars from the golden era of the early 1950s. The fact that Red Man cards are very challenging to collect in high grade gives them a mystique and all-the-greater appeal to serious collectors. Red Man Tobacco cards are never going out of style with advanced collectors. Red Man cards do not get a lot of attention compared to Topps and Bowman, but are one of the premier sets of the 1950s. Condition: 32% Ex-Mt to Nr/Mt, 58% Vg-Ex to Ex, and 10% Gd to Vg (including a couple due to small marks on the back). Many of the cards have far better eye-appeal than suggested by their technically accurate assigned grades. Keys: #1A Stengel (Ex), 3A Berra (Ex), 6A Doby (Ex+), 8A Feller (Ex), 9A Fox (Ex-Mt), 13A Kell (Ex), 23A Williams (Ex), 1N Durocher (Ex), 2N Ashburn (Vg-Ex), 9N Irvin (Nr/Mt+), 12N Kiner (Ex), 15N Mays (Vg-Ex), 16N Musial (Vg-Ex), 17N Reese (Vg-Ex), 18N Roberts (Ex), 19N Schoendienst (Vg-Ex), 20N Slaughter (Vg-Ex+), 21N Snider (Nr/Mt), 22N Spahn (Nr/Mt), and 24N Wynn (Vg+). This is an outstanding complete set of this striking and unusual issue, and one that we think represents an extraordinary value compared to the value of most other cards from the 1950s. Total: 52 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000+.
